Co-infection with syphilis and malaria: immune deterioration on CD4+
نویسنده
چکیده
Syphilis is a well-known sexually transmitted disease found around the world. Malaria and syphilis are endemic in many regions of the world, and co-infection with the two pathogens is common. Here, the author used a new pathway ontology technology to predict the pathway of CD4+ suppression in an episode of co-infection. Of interest, the author found that there are some immune suppression process that can be found both in syphilis and malaria. The mentioned processes are inhibiting interleukin-2 secreted by CD4+ and nitric oxide production. In the co-infection, the synergy to increase the immune suppression can be expected.

Effect of HIV and malaria parasites co-infection on immune-hematological profiles among patients attending anti-retroviral treatment (ART) clinic in Infectious Disease Hospital Kano, Nigeria
BACKGROUND Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and malaria co-infection may present worse health outcomes in the tropics. Information on HIV/malaria co-infection effect on immune-hematological profiles is critical for patient care and there is a paucity of such data in Nigeria. OBJECTIVE To evaluate immune-hematological profiles among HIV infected patients compared to HIV/malaria co-infected f...

BACKGROUND Dual epidemics of the malaria parasite Plasmodium and HIV-1 in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia present a significant risk for co-infection in these overlapping endemic regions. Recent studies of HIV/Plasmodium falciparum co-infection have reported significant interactions of these pathogens, including more rapid CD4+ T cell loss, increased viral load, increased immunosuppression, and inc...
متن کاملMalaria-Cutaneous Leishmaniasis Co-infection: Influence on Disease Outcomes and Immune Response
Malaria and Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (CL) are co-endemic throughout large regions in tropical countries and co-infection may impact the evolution of host-parasite interactions. In the present study, we evaluate Malaria/Leishmaniasis disease outcome, Th1/Th2 cytokine levels and the CD4 and CD8 T-cell profiles in a co-infection murine model (BALB/c) of Plasmodium yoelii 17XNL (Py) and Leishmania a...
متن کاملImpact of syphilis infection on HIV viral load and CD4 cell counts in HIV-infected patients.
OBJECTIVES To assess the effect of early syphilis on HIV viral load (VL) and CD4 cell count in patients with HIV and to analyze factors associated with changes in HIV VL and CD4 cell count. DESIGN Multicenter study of a series of patients with HIV who were diagnosed with early syphilis infection during 2004 through 2005. Patients who started or changed their highly active antiretroviral thera...
متن کاملAssessment of the impact of malaria on CD4+ T Cells and haemoglobin levels of HIV-malaria co-infected patients.
INTRODUCTION The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and malaria destroy important cells required for proper immunological and haematological functioning of the body. This research therefore aimed to assess the effect of malaria on CD4+ and haemoglobin (Hb) levels of HIV-malaria co-infected patients. METHODOLOGY The study was performed by sampling 220 adult HIV patients on highly active anti r...
